Set on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, the Roger and Laura Farnworth Arts Residency offers a wonderful wild setting for artists, poets and writers.

The Place

Residents stay in The Cyprus Flat in the old rectory (The Rookery) and work in The Studio built by Roger in the orchard.

There are 3 acres of woodland and garden around The Rookery, and magnificent moorland and woodland walks around Warleggan to enjoy.

The Residents

The Residency aims to provide a beautiful, inspiring space for residents to create new work or continue working on existing projects.

Over the past few years the Residency has welcomed artists, writers, novelists, poets and musicians.

The Founders

The Residency celebrates the lives of Roger and Laura Farnworth. Roger and Laura were poets and painters with a passion for the wild world.

They expressed this in paintings, drawings and poetry. Together, they developed a sense of the world as ‘miracle’.

Inspiring Settings

Warleggan is a beautiful little hamlet on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor, one of the loveliest landscapes in Cornwall.

Relaxing Retreat

The Cyprus Flat is set within an old rectory. The rectory was built between 1705 to 1707 by Daniel Baudris, a rector of Huguenot origin. The flat takes its name from a door painted by the Reverend Densham (vicar, 1931 - 1952).

The Cyprus Flat has lovely Georgian features. It has an open plan kitchen (the Residency is self-catering) and lounge overlooking the Oval Lawn, a huge bathroom with shower and bath, a hallway with a small library - which includes the work of earlier Residents, and a comfortable bedroom with a king-sized bed.

Creative Foundations

The Residency celebrates the lives of Roger and Laura Farnworth. Laura was a poet who loved birds, wild plants, the wind, the moor and the sea. Roger was a philosopher, painter, human rights activist, archaeologist and poet.
